Doctors Are People Too: How Research Can Inform Workforce Policy and Planning

Prof Jen Cleland, Prof of Medical Education, Aberdeen

Jen has been John Simpson Chair of Medical Education Research since 2011, and is Director of the Centre for Healthcare Education Research and Innovation, University of Aberdeen.

Jen is a psychologist, starting her career observing primate social behaviour, then training and working in occupational and clinical psychology.  She moved to Aberdeen in 2000 for a split University: NHS Grampian post, working as a Clinical Psychologist in Liaison Psychiatry for 10 years.  She moving to the University full-time in 2011.

Many areas within Scotland struggle to recruit and retain trainees and doctors.  This lecture draws on a 10-year programme of work to highlight the factors most valued by medical students and trainees in terms of their career choices and personal priorities.
