WAS IT ALL A DREAM? DEALING WITH THE ‘FIRST WAVE’ OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC FROM A RESPIRATORY PERSPECTIVE

4 April 2024

Professor Jonathan Bennett, Honorary Professor of Respiratory Sciences, University of Leicester.

Four years on, as we are coming to define ourselves and our lives as "pre and post pandemic" Prof Bennett will revisit the experiences of those first few weeks and months of the pandemic.  A somewhat different perspective to those seen at the COVID enquiries (a WhatsApp message free zone).

Jon Bennett is a Consultant Respiratory and General Medicine Physician at Glenfield Hospital UHL NHS Trust in Leicester. He has been service lead for Lung Cancer, and lead for Bronchoscopy and interventional procedures, facilitating many service improvements. He was a Royal College Tutor for 9 years and undergraduate education co-Lead for Cardio-Respiratory Medicine for 8 years.

A jobbing respiratory clinician from South of the Border (please be gentle) who happened to be Chair of the British Thoracic Society 2019 to 2021, he is now President of BTS -  wonderful roles working with fantastic people. Still, just the boy from Wolverhampton made good and blessed to be working with great colleagues at Glenfield Hospital. Happy with most things respiratory medicine except the NHS’s inability to support the specialty to the degree it needs and sort out Winter Pressures. Still trying to do his bit for the environment; pottering about on a bike very slowly.
